Classic Mille-Feuille Recipe

Mille-feuille translates to “a thousand sheets”, referring to the many crisp layers of puff pastry. Paired with rich crème pâtissière and a touch of glaze, it’s elegant, light, and unforgettable.

For the Pastry Layers:

  • 1 package (about 14 oz / 400g) all-butter puff pastry, thawed if frozen

For the Pastry Cream (Crème Pâtissière):

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (or 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk (for thinning)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2–3 tbsp melted dark chocolate (for feathering)
