For the Pastry Layers:

For the Pastry Cream (Crème Pâtissière):
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (or 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
For the Topping:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk (for thinning)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 2–3 tbsp melted dark chocolate (for feathering)
